Looking back at Martin Luther King Jr.’s life work shows a man who was empowered by his revolutionary spirit. As many people take his day of remembrance as an opportunity to post flowery quotes, I feel his most crucial statements get overlooked. Dr. King was truly a revolutionary who would act to change an unjust world. He once said, “Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go out into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism.”
We still deal with many issues today that Dr. King fought, which many of us have gotten complacent over. Recent census data shows that half of the U.S. population qualifies as poor or low income, with one in five millennials living in poverty. In 2011, 16.7 million children lived in food insecure households. A 2013 UNICEF report ranked the U.S. as having the second highest relative child poverty rates in the developed world. Would Dr. King think that is acceptable?
Many mainstream society members blame poor education or drugs and alcohol on the homeless. Society often blames the homeless for not “getting a job”. Did you know that 44% of homeless people are employed? We can throw the homeless man a dime, or we can start to look at the big picture, like Dr. King would.
We live in a financial landscape where the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Such a small group of people control most of the world’s wealth and resources. Our societal abundance is being choked by the greedy few. We keep giving the majority of our wealth to corporations as mom and pop shops are closing their doors. Where we spend our money truly dictates our financial landscape. If you want a revolution, start by revolutionizing your life. Live closer to work. Stop paying so much in gas. Spend money at a local shop versus a place that outsources to make their shareholders richer. Does your company help or inhibit this cause?
Today, take the opportunity to re-evaluate the life you lead and the world in which you live. Which structures need to be reconstructed to better suit everyone and everything that shares this planet? Don’t be complacent when you see others suffer. In Dr. King’s name, take action to make the necessary changes. One man did so much and had a profound impact on all of us. Imagine a world where everyone led their life by their own revolutionary spirit.
I’ve been meeting a lot of new people lately, and in my encounters I am actually shocked how many people vilify other people. Gossip is something I am definitely not a fan of. I find it a waste of time. I find that others find it entertaining. However, most gossip is an exaggerated lie of the truth. Lies can be entertaining to those who don’t live in integrity. Bonding with others over a lie is a hollow friendship, yet I see it everyday.
I feel many people put others on pedestals, and sometimes even themselves. This is also a lie. No matter your accomplishments, popularity, or privileges, everyone on this Earth is just as worthy. Everyone is a divine being in spiritual truth. Once you pass on and shed the physical, you become part of the spiritual. Knowing this, everyone is one in the same in spiritual truth. Once you come to this realization, talking badly of others or idolizing others becomes time wasted. It isn’t necessary when at the end of the day you realize you are only talking about yourself in spiritual truth. We are all one. 💕
When I first “woke up” spiritually, it was an alarming experience to realize many of the people I knew and came to love were still sleeping. Being spiritually aware beyond any doubt is a beautiful experience, but sometimes the fear has its way to creep in, and you may feel isolated and lonely at times. I wouldn’t trade my dark nights of the soul for anything. The experience makes you strong and lovingly powerful. A dark night of the soul has birthed some profound prophets and healers. Ancient Egyptians took the experience of a dark night of the soul as a right of passage. Egyptians would shut themselves in a coffin for days, left to only the darkness and their own thoughts. They either died of fright from their own fears, or emerged stronger and wiser.
I was frightened at first to share my experiences or beliefs for fear of what others would think. These fears have proven themselves insignificant. Sure, some people that were once in my life are no longer there due to rejecting my new look on life. I find that the changes in friendships have been to my benefit. It has been so rewarding to find that the more I speak my truth, the more people who are spiritually aware have walked into my life, and the more my long time friends with similar closeted beliefs now step forward. The long conversations, synchronistic encounters and events, and the ideas that we have all shared are truly priceless.
As a child, I heard many theories about the new age- the golden age, and the transformational shift in consciousness our time period would be undergoing. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine how real and beautiful all of the predictions of the new age truly were. Heaven on Earth is a choice. It is a choice we make every second of our lives. It is a choice to have our thoughts dwell in a spiritual direction, and to attract miracles. To have your mind open in a spiritual direction will help you manifest profound psychic experiences. The opposite is also true, that if you close yourself off to the possibility of spiritual experiences, you may never have the experience.
Keep an open mind, have lovingly honest conversations, and watch your life shift in a positive direction. Not everyone will make it in this lifetime but that is also their free will choice to do so. Don’t label someone as negative or not spiritual since it discourages others even further. I always say it just hasn’t happened yet for them, but it will. I’ve seen some people make dramatic changes, including myself. No one is ever really lost and the spiritual path is here for everyone when they are ready.
I was driving the other day near my house and came across a road called “Lonesome Oak.” I started thinking about human beings’ tendency to project human emotions on nature (which we so often do). Many in our society view Oak as the loneliest tree. I grew up attending a small school in the country and know from my schooling there that Oak trees have to have enough space in the soil for their complicated root systems. Other trees cannot be planted next to an Oak if you want it to be healthy. It never dawned on me as a child that the Oak is a lonely tree. The tree receives all the nourishment it needs from it’s personal sources: the Earth below and the Sun above. It does not need tree companions to do what it is in existence to do: grow. However, I can see from a very physical perspective how an Oak could look lonely to the untrained eye because the tree is often alone from other trees.
Consciousness can essentially be explained in an acorn. Humans can be viewed like an Oak tree. From a physical perspective, human beings could look very lonely on their own. Many people who live an unconscious life actually become scared to be physically alone since they cannot see beyond the physical veil. Like the roots of an Oak tree into the Earth, our minds are connected to infinite energy and consciousness. We can harness energy and knowledge from the source without needing to take the energy and resources from our peers. Like the Oak tree, the natural state of consciousness is to grow and expand. If an Oak tree decided to be planted next to another Oak tree, both Oak would experience less than prime health. When we lean on our fellow men instead of the one true source within us, our understanding becomes limited. We can do this on our own. We do not need a priest, a temple, a guru friend, or any external guidance. Living a conscious, healthy, and positive life can plant future acorns of peace for future generations of Oak Trees to grow big and strong.
Since all human conflict arises out of the appearance of lack, take a moment to imagine a world where everybody had enough abundance to go around because of the eternal and personal connection to source. Looks pretty amazing, right? Some say it would be chaos without the man made rules we impose on ourselves, but those in the know understand that reestablishing a personal connection to the divine source diminishes any seeming conflict. Abundance for all is within our reach. It is our challenge this life to bring peace to a world who is just beginning to understand what true abundance looks like. Peace on Earth is not only very possible, but completely attainable for everyone.
